Descent of gullies. How do it?

What is the descent of gullies?

As a definition, the descent of canyons is a sport in the middle of nature that is practiced in a specific environment. It consists of the descent of a channel that can present in the form of torrents, streams, rivers, gorgas (more or less narrow and deep), with or without permanent presence of water and that can present cascades, kettles, channels, extra plumb areas. It requires a progression and overcoming of obstacles by: walking, jumping, sliding, detrepes, rappel and other techniques of evolution with rope. This discipline imposes the possession of a specific material and technique linked to the variability of the natural environment. So we will talk about the descent by referring to the path of a canyon proper and to space when we talk about the area or geographical area where there are several descents.

The quotation is valid for a medium or normal flow, in the usual period of practice, where the water level is low but not necessarily in the middle of the dry season. It is calibrated for a group of 5 people, in situation of discovery of the canyon (in sight) and whose level of practice is adequate to the technical level of the descent. A personal and additional search for difficulty will not add this to the rate of descent. The guns shall be counted as follows:
- The letter v followed by a number from 1 to 7 (the scale is open to the rise) for the difficulty in vertical character.
- The letter a followed by a number from 1 to 7 (the scale is open to the rise) for the difficulty in the aquatic character.

Recommendations for the descent of gullies

Preparation before venturing to the realization of a ravine, one must inform about:
- The route: level of difficulty, boxing, unevenness, schedule (including approach and return), consultation of topo-guides, information panels, professional organizations or Teaching associations.
- On the leaks, roads, additional accesses It will also be necessary to be informed more precisely on:
- The nature of the route, and in the water canyons in more detail on the presence of important water movements derived from a geomorphology. Particular: rappels, siphon blocks, kettles, washing machines, violent eddies, flooded galleries etc. For this, we can find a great amount of information both in topo-guides and in web2 pages that provide us with great information about the characteristics of the ravine that help us to foresee the material necessary for its correct realization.

- On the water flow (depending on the geographical location, altitude and importance of the feeding basin), and the response time in case of precipitation at the head of the basin.
- On the artificial regulation of flows of the watercourses. It should be noted that many water evacuation systems are automated, and therefore unpredictable. So we must take into account this aspect and consult the level of the reservoirs to know if it is possible to disembark or not. You must respect the crazy regulations too.
- Notify a third person of the route chosen and the probable time of return.

Here is a video of how complicated it can be the descent of a ravine for what checking technique so high they have the best.
