Descent of gullies. Part 2 Technics.
Continuing the first part of descent of ravines ...
To carry out a descent of ravine, we must have the necessary knowledge of the environment and techniques of descent by ropes that we must carry out for a correct practice, without incidents or accidents that compromise the safety of others and our own. For this we will carry out the explanation of all the technical knowledge that must be kept in mind when making a descent.
USING THE DESCENTER
Purpose: To use this element as a brake for the descent and in case of fall. The correct positioning must be chosen to avoid accidents when the rope is released.
Another dangerous variant is the classic mounting system, which tends to form the lark knot in the case where the descender comes into contact with a rocky ridge.
Failure to check the descender can lead to the descent with the eight crossed in the locking of the carabiner. If the carabiner is broken it can open, causing an accident. It should be avoided to lower with the loose anchor ropes during descent. With the rush, we could grab one of them instead of the rope of progression, which has already caused many accidents.
DOWNLOADING A VERTICAL
Objective: The objective of the descent of a vertical is to be able to do it with total security avoiding to harm ourselves and the material on which we depend. Perform Graphic description:
1. Lower the rope regularly and without jerks; Limiting the effect of friction on the possible points of contact with the rock and limiting the risk of releasing the rope.
2. Keep both hands holding the rope for better control of the rope, and be able to lean on the wall with one hand without having to release the rope in case of skating.

3. Look alternately up and down; To anticipate our trajectory in the descent and to verify that the rope does not rub in any place with edges of the rock. 4. Avoid the pendulums and move away from the vertical axis; In case the pendulum returns to the vertical axis of the descent, we could damage the rope with the friction and hit us strongly against the wall or even with the water of the waterfall. 5. The feet should be at hip height, separating them sufficiently to form a large "V", and must be seated on the harness.
