The Best Beaches to Surf in Spain: Basic Level


Palmar (Cadiz)
 It is one of the most popular beaches for surf lovers. There are more than 4 kilometers of coast, something which is ideal for surfers of all levels, with right and left waves. The wave in this beach is fast, tubing and closeouts. If you are lucky and there are East winds, you will have waves of one meter and a half. The best moment to go to this beach is during the period from November to March. In addition, summer will be the best season for beginners as they may find a calmed sea and great waves.

Somo (Cantabria)

Somo is a beach located 30 kilometers long from Santander. It is a sand beach which is four kilometers long and where there are plenty of points. It is a great place for surfers of all levels. It is orientated through the open sea and its waves are great during the whole year. In fact, if there aren’t waves here, there won’t be waves in the North of Spain. Somo is a perfect place to rest and do some sport.  

Rozo (Galicia)
Razo is in Costa da Morte. You will easily lose yourself in its 6 kilometers of beauty. It is a sandy beach which is perfect in order to learn to surf, but also if you have an intermediate or advance level, as there are rock bottom points such as the famous Cordobés. It is suitable to go with South winds when waves break perfectly.

Zarautz (Guipuzcoa)
Zarautz beach, with sand bottom, offers more than two and a half kilometers in length to enjoy its waves all year round. It is the capital of surfing in Gipuzkoa and one of the most important quarries of surfers in Europe. It is an ideal beach for surfing, in which there are no great currents and its waves are good in all types of tides, although the best is the low. It is a beach for all levels.

Nearby, between the road linking Zarautz and Getaria, it breaks one of the most dangerous waves in the Bay of Biscay, called Roca Puta, which only breaks through the strongest tide of winter.
