The Best Beaches to Surf in Spain: Expert Level
The Best Beaches to Surf in Spain: Expert Level
In this
post we will give you some information about the best Spanish beaches where you
can go in order to practice surf:
The most
famous Spanish waves are, with no doubt, in Mundaka. Its left wave (waves here
break in the left) is considered one of the best in Europe. Mundaka is a beach
located in Biscay, at the mouth of the Oaka River. Mundaka wave can generate
long tubes on a sandy bottom, something which is quite rare. The wave is 3-4
meters high, and it runs about 400 meters. Surfers come from every part of the
world in order to enjoy surfing here.

Rodiles BEACH (Asturias)
Rodiles
Beach is located in the province of Asturias, a province in the north of Spain.
The beach is born where Villaviciosa estuary disappears in the sea. It is a
beach with fine golden sand, which is little frequented but in summer. It is a wild beach that follows the line of
contrasts of Asturias, since to reach the sea it is necessary to cross a pine
forest and dunes. Near the estuary, you will find that the wave breaks to the
left, similar to Mundaka's: fast, powerful and tubular. In other areas you will
find waves that break both left and right. It is such a powerful wave that they
are only suitable to experienced surfers.
Pantin (Galicia)
Pantin is a
beach located in the Atlantic coast, between Ferrold and La Estaca de Bares,
and it is the most important Galician beach for surfers. Waves here have
different points, coming from left and right, but there is one coming from the
right which is really special. The best months for surfing are October and
November. However, due to the characteristics of the waves, surf can be
practiced here for the whole year. It is a white sand beach, and water is
always cold.
If you are
looking for little-visited places, you may go to Valdoviño, where there are
plenty of unspoiled beaches with amazing views. For instance, you may go to
Campelo, a savage beach surrounded by cliffs, which is one of the best options
due to the calm that reigns there.
The Quemao (Lanzarote)
In the
north of the Lanzarote Island, there is one of the better and most dangerous
waves in the Atlantic Ocean. Quemao beach is a really special place as it is
always sunny. In fact, there are people who say that this beach is “the
European Hawaii”. However, only the better riders are able to surf its wave, so
it is highly recommended for high-experienced surfers. It is important to
remark that this wave breaks powerfully against a sharp lava bottom.
